The principle at the root of a waterjet cut is simple but still surprising. As the name suggests, a jet of water is projected out of an opening at more than twice the speed of sound. The intense flow of pressure allows the water to cut practically any composite material and any kind of metallic alloy. The water flow is very fine, usually between 0.75 mm and 1.20 mm, which means the flow of water can cut details that are impossible to achieve with conventional cutting tools

This is how Roberto Poretti, 80 years old, Managing Director, describes the establishment of La Fonte, a company founded in 1975 together with his life-long friend, Antonio Andriolo. In the years that followed, their work flow steadily increased, along with client demands; leading Poretti and Andriolo to make the investment in a machining center. In 1995, a machining center for flat plastic processing was installed, a decision that was made after testing the machine in the company of expert CMS personnel.

The 27th edition of Fakuma, the international trade fair for plastic materials has just ended and was an outstanding success for CMS. Large numbers of visitors were recorded at the stand, dominated by the presence of the eidos, the new benchmark in vacuum plate thermoforming. What was also very appealing was the chance to see it for the first time with an all-round state-of-the-art tour that offered an opportunity to discover the most inconceivable details.
