Salomon and CMS: tecnocut smartline at the service of prototyping

Mar 19, 2026

In Annecy, in the heart of the French Alps, Salomon has been a benchmark in outdoor sports for over 75 years, operating in a range of sectors including alpine and Nordic skiing, trail running, footwear and sports style, with a strong focus on innovation and new product development.

The company's prototyping department focuses on cutting and processing the materials needed to make prototypes. This is the context in which the collaboration with CMS started, and the tecnocut smartline was adopted to replace the previous waterjet machine, which had become obsolete, especially the software.

Salomon was also an official license holder for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and it was precisely the prototyping department that developed equipment and solutions aimed at ensuring maximum sports performance for the Olympic champions and high-level athletes.

We met Nicolas Legon, a prototype designer at Salomon for over eleven years, who uses the tecnocut smartline on a daily basis:

"We use this machine to cut fabrics, carbon, kevlar, foams and other materials, which are then assembled to make functional prototypes."

The tecnocut smartline was chosen to meet very specific needs: a compact, efficient machine suitable for a prototyping environment where flexibility and speed are essential. The application versatility of the CMS solution allows Salomon to handle very different materials and projects, supporting product development for multiple lines and sports disciplines.

Another distinguishing feature is the user-friendly, reliable software, which has allowed Salomon to renew its technology ahead of time and ensure long-term operational continuity.

In addition to the technology, the collaboration with CMS France has also been of fundamental value for Salomon. Its geographical proximity made it possible to provide quick service and constant support, especially during machine installation and start-up.

"We had excellent relations, especially during installation and the lead-up to commissioning, thanks to very helpful people who were very attentive to our needs."

Today, tecnocut smartline is an integral part of Salomon's prototyping activities, helping to support the continuous innovation that defines the brand.
